Drawing Automation
Drawing automation is a powerful automated process that quickly generates 2D drawings from your designs in the Drawing workspace in Fusion.
It helps you reduce errors and time spent on tedious, repetitive tasks and lets you create consistent, pre-configured drawings at the push of a button.
To get the most out of drawing automation, set up your templates. It is optional but if you do set up your templates in advance, you won't have to set up your drawing preferences from scratch each time you create a drawing.
If placeholder views are used in the template, they are used instead of the drawing automation algorithm to place views.
If you already have your templates, or you know how to create them, or you want to create a drawing without a template, go ahead and create a drawing from a design.
Review your drawing
Once the drawing is ready, you can review it and make changes if needed to make sure it meets all your criteria.
Choose the suitable dimensioning strategy
Drawing Automation offers a powerful command called Auto Dimensions.
Access
On the toolbar, select Dimension > Auto Dimension .
Or, right-click any dimension and select Edit Auto Dimensions.
In addition to automatic dimensioning, this tool is also used for adjusting automatically created dimensions. The Auto Dimension dialog lets you choose the dimensioning strategy that best suits your drawing.
The following dimensions are available:
- Baseline dimensions
- Chain dimensions
- Ordinate dimensions
- Overall dimensions
- Symmetric dimensions
- Symmetric with baseline dimensions
As you scroll through the dimensioning alternatives, the thumbnail shows you what the dimensions will look like. When you click a specific dimensioning strategy, the canvas updates and more options become available for that specific strategy.
Where applicable, the Datum Location allows you to choose where the datum will be placed and where all the dimensions will be referenced from.
The Density slider lets you increase or decrease the number of dimensions.
When you are satisfied with the dimensioning, you can also make sure your drawing is neat and tidy. Use the Tidy Up command to automatically rearrange, re-sort and/or resize objects in the sheet.
Tip
When you create, or edit a drawing template, you can choose a default dimensioning strategy for each sheet type.
In the Document Settings of your drawing template, on the Automation Settings tab, you can set your preferred dimensioning strategy of these sheet types:
- Assembly
- Component
- Folded Component
- Flat Pattern
- Storyboard
