Add a frame to a schematics sheet

If you want to create automated Xref labels to show where the signal on a net links to a net on another sheet, both sheets require frames that include a block or border system for mapping label locations.

  1. In the Electronics Schematic document, in the Design tab, click (Place > Place Components) Sheet icon to open the Place Components panel on the right of the window.

  2. At the top of the Place Components panel, in the All Libraries drop down, type frames to open the public frames library.

Note: If you have a frame in a different library, you can select that library instead.
  3. Browse the library and identify a suitable frame.

For example, FRAME_A_L is an 8.5 x 11-inch frame with blocks numbered 1 to 6 along the top and A to E down the sides.

  4. Double-click the frame to open the Add command panel.

  5. In the Add command panel, modify the orientation of the frame if necessary.

  6. Move your mouse to the canvas and click to place the frame in the desired location.

  7. In the Add command panel, click Done to close the command.

  8. Switch to the second sheet and repeat the process to add a frame to that sheet.

Note: The frames on both sheets must be the same size and have the same block numbering system for the Xref labels to work correctly.

Xref label format

SignalName/SheetNumber.Block

Example: PC5/U7TX/2.5G means that the other end of signal PC5/U7TX is on sheet 2, in block 5G.
