Displacement compensation uses the results from a solved Process Simulation study to create an .stl
file or a .3mf
file. The file changes the original CAD geometry of a part so that it can counteract predicted distortion.
The shrinkage of material as it cools during the manufacturing process can cause stress, which can then distort a part’s shape. A compensated file reverse-warps the simulated displacement, so that when a part is manufactured it distorts to the originally desired shape.
Using displacement compensation may help to make more accurate parts from fewer design iterations.
