Export a BOM

You can export BOM data to an Excel file. You can export either the nested view or the flat view of the BOM. When you export the flat view, the Excel file includes that values that vary, the individual occurrences, and cloud PDM file names.

1. Click the Bill of Materials tab.

2. Select the view, date, and configuration of the BOM.

3. Click Export as Excel .

   The Excel file is downloaded to your browser's download folder. The format of the filename is <Item Descriptor>(space)-(space)YYYY-MM-DD.xlsx where YYYY-MM-DD is the date on which the BOM was exported.

Re-importing Exported data

If you are planning on re-importing the exported BOM, follow these guidelines:

• Select a BOM view that includes all the fields required by a BOM import. In particular, follow the validation rules for item revisioning data (Lifecycle, Revision, Release Date, and Effectivity Date). If you do not follow these rules, you will not be able to map the exported data back to the original data. For help on these rules, see NO LABEL .

• After you export the data to an Excel file, open the file in Excel and re-save it. This step is necessary because the exported file is not a true Excel file but one that Excel can read. By re-saving the file, you change its format to true Excel, which is the format that the import requires.

• If you plan on re-importing a Unit of Measure (UOM) field in your Item Details tab, select a BOM view that includes the field with UOM values from the Item Details tab instead of the Unit field in the Bill of Materials tab.

  The Unit field in the Bill of Materials tab shows the Unit Abbreviation value while the Item Details tab shows the full Unit Name. Only the Unit Name can be mapped in an import, and so it is required to make your reimport successful.
