Customize User Interface Dialog

The Customize User Interface dialog lets you create an entirely customized user interface, including shortcuts, toolbars, and colors. You can also add commands and macro scripts by selecting either a text or icon button to represent the command or script on the toolbar.

  • Default menu: Customize menu > Customize User Interface
  • Alt menu: Customize menu > Customization > Customize User Interface

Most commands in the 3ds Max interface appear in this dialog as actions. An action is simply a command that you can assign to a keyboard shortcut, toolbar, quad menu, or menu. The Mouse and Toolbars panels of this dialog show lists of actions that you can assign. The lists on the Colors panel contain UI elements instead.

Note: A few actions do not correspond to any elements in the default user interface. For more information, see Additional Keyboard Commands.

These are the file formats:

  • MUSX Stores custom mouse settings.
  • CUIX Stores custom toolbar settings.
  • CLRX Stores custom color settings.
Note: As of 3ds Max 2025, menus and quad menus are no longer customized using this dialog. See the Menu Editor for menu customization.
