Open

Retrieves previously saved files, including wireframe models and other third party data formats.

If the file was opened or saved during the current session, you can use File > Open Recent > and select the file from the list.

Choose File > Open > to access options for the file type you are opening.

Important: You cannot open .wire files that contain Chinese, Japanese, or Korean characters in the file name. Attempting to do so results in a warning message and the .wire file does not open. Alias is not Internationalized, and does not support non-European language characters.

To add the data from a file to the current scene, use File > Import > File. For information about file options see, File > Import > File.

Tip: You can make the task of opening multiple files quicker by turning off the Construction Options Retrieve window. This way, all of the files will open without you needing to click either Keep Current or Accept New for each file you open.

To do this window:

  1. Select File > Open > zap.
  2. In the WIRE Options, turn off Keep Construction Options.

Turning this off also stops the window from appearing when you import other supported file formats.

What if...?

  • When I open a wire file the screen is blank or the windows change?

Alias saves descriptions of the open windows along with the other information in a wire file. When you open the file again, Alias uses the window layout from the file, even if that means no windows.

    • To open view windows, choose a layout from the Layout menu.
    • To prevent Alias from loading the window layout from a file when you open, choose File > Open , open the Wire Options section and turn off Keep Windows.
  • The file I want to open is in a different project?

    1. Go To drop-down menu, choose Projects.
    2. Double-click the name of the project folder.
