Add and Set Values for Extended Properties

When parameters have been set up in the Account Admin > Library in Docs, project administrators can add them to selected models in Model Coordination. Project members can then set values for the extended properties for those models.

Add Extended Properties

To add extended properties:

  1. Use the Models or Views tool to open the models or view you want to add properties for.

Note: Properties are added at the file level. If you have multiple models open that are sourced from the same file, for example different 3D views from the same Revit file, properties are added to the whole file.
  2. In the viewer, click Properties on the viewing toolbar.

  3. Select the specific model objects that you want to add properties too, either by selecting them in the viewer, or by using the object table.

  4. Click Add properties, either on the object table or the Properties panel.

Note: If using the Properties panel, at least one model object must be selected to enable the Add properties button.
  5. Use the Parameters Service dialog to select the parameters that you want to add as properties:

Note: Parameters selected from the Parameters Service are shown as extended properties in Model Coordination.
    1. Use the Collections drop-down list to select the collection you want to add parameters from.

The available parameters are displayed in a table, which also shows details such as data type, status, and category.

The Status column shows if the parameters are:

      • Ready Check - ready to add to the file.
      • Already added Office building - already added to the file.
      • Can't be added No entry - not supported in Model Coordination.
      1. If you're adding properties to a Revit file, click the More menu in the Category column to specify which Revit categories each parameter is applied to.

For other file types, properties are added to all objects in the model. This is indicated by < None > in the Category column.

Note: The category setting only applies to the files that you are currently adding properties to, and doesn't affect the parameter definition in the Parameters Service, or any other files in Model Coordination.
      2. Optionally, select a Property Palette Group setting for each parameter, to specify the subheading that the property appears under in the Properties panel.

  6. Click Confirm Settings.

  7. Review your selected parameters, and optionally select the check box to automatically add the resulting properties as columns to the object table.

  8. Click Apply to files.

For more information on the Parameters Service, including how to create or modify parameters for the account, see the Parameters topic in the Docs help.

Set Values to Extended Properties

Once properties have been added by a project administrator, project members can set values for the properties for individual model objects or multiple objects in bulk.

To set values for properties:

  1. Select the model objects that you want to set property values for, either by selecting them in the viewer, or using the object table.

    Tip:

If you select multiple model objects, the property values are set for all objects.

  2. Click Properties on the viewing toolbar to open the Properties panel.

  3. In the Extended properties section of the Properties panel, click the field next to a property to select or search for the required value from previously entered values. You can also type a value and then click +Add[value] to add a new value.

  4. Repeat for each property as required.

Note: For property values that are measurable data types, such as length or acceleration, the Properties panel and Object Table use the Display Units and Precision settings from the Settings > Configuration > Display dialog in the viewer. If you change these settings, existing property values are automatically converted.
