Working with Levels

Overview

The Levels tab in the navigation toolbar is used to filter to specific levels in your models or view. This can be helpful, for example, to organize the coordination process by floor.

Note: Levels data is defined in models in the authoring tool they are created in.

Using the Levels Tab

  1. Use the Models or Views tool to open models or views in the viewer.

  2. In the viewer, select the Levels tab to open the Levels panel.

  3. If you have a view or multiple models open, use the Display levels from drop-down list at the top of the panel to select the model you want to use levels from.

    Note:

    • Only one level can be selected at a time.
    • The Model browser and Issues tabs aren't filtered by the selected level.
    • Level filters aren't saved to a view but do get saved to the issue context.
    • When you apply a level filter, in addition to hiding things outside the extent of the level, the viewer also hides floors, roofs, and ceilings (based on Revit's built-in categories), to make it easier for you to see the contents of your model.
  4. Use the search field to search for levels by name within the model.

  5. Select a level in the panel to filter the model.

  6. To remove a level filter, click the selected level again.

Supported Files for Levels

The Levels tab is only supported for files that have levels data in them. Whether the viewer can read levels data from the model depends on the file type:

  • RVT - Supports level filtering as long as levels have been set up in the file in Revit.
  • IFC - Depends on the file (varies based on authoring application and export settings). The viewer will scan for IfcBuildingStorey and then extract elevation data and names of levels based on this.
  • NWD and NWC- Generally doesn't support level filtering, but may if the file was created from a RVT or IFC file that contained level data.
  • Other file types (such as DWG and SKP)- Doesn't support level filtering.

Considerations

  • Levels data is specified at the file level, so there is no difference between selecting different models from the same Revit file.
  • If you've opened multiple models that are all from the same Revit file, you won't see the Display levels from drop-down list.
  • By default, the largest model ( in terms of file size) is selected in the Display levels from drop-down list.
