Adding Markers

Use Markers to leave a comment or indicate a status for a frame.

There are two types of Markers: Markers and Segment Markers. The former is added at the clip level and appear in the Player timebar. The latter is added to the timeline segment and does not appear in the Player timebar; it is only visible in the Timeline view where timeline segments are visible.

To add a Marker:

  1. In the timebar, do one of the following:

    • Drag the yellow positioner to the desired frame.
    • Click on the desired frame on the time bar.
  2. Click the Marker button.

A marker is placed in the Player timebar, as well as the Timeline, to indicate the marked frame. You can change the colour of a selected marker by clicking the colour button in the Timeline ribbon.

Note: You can decide if the Add Marker dialog window is opened or not when a new Marker is added by selecting the desired option in the Add Markers Preferences. If you attempt to add a Marker on a frame that already has one, the Edit Marker dialog window is opened.
Tip: The Add Marker dialog window can be bypassed by holding the Auto Confirm keyboard shortcut while clicking the Marker button in the Player. The keyboard shortcut is assigned to Alt by default in all keyboard shortcuts profiles.

To delete a marker:

  1. Click the Timeline tab.
  2. Select the specific Marker to be deleted.
  3. Click Delete Marker in the Timeline ribbon.

Additional Options to the Markers Button

The Marker button, available in the Player, Fullscreen Player, Source-Sequence view, Triptych Player, and Conform Player offers options to speed up the creation of Markers.

Colour Presets

Colour presets are available from the drop-down button associated to the Marker button. These presets can be set in the Colour Coding Preferences.

Note: The label associated with a colour is persisted in the Marker's metadata. When a clip is loaded on a workstation using a different colour coding legend, the colour of the Markers is adjusted to reflect the colour - label association of the new workstation.

Adding Markers or Segment Markers

By default, the Marker button adds a Marker. This can be changed to add Segment Markers by selecting Segment Marker in the drop-down button. The title on the button changes from Marker to Seg Marker to indicate what type of Marker you will be adding next.

Cover Full Length by Default

Enable Cover Full Length to have the Marker cover the entire span of a timeline segment by default or not. Disable to have the Marker have a 0 frame duration by default.

  • Markers: The duration is set to the duration of the segment on the bottom track of the primary video version.
  • Segment Markers: The duration is set to the duration of the timeline segment.

Pasting Markers

Markers can be copied and pasted using their respective Copy and Paste Markers options available in the Marker and Positioner context menus.

Copy Segment Markers to a Different Track

Segments Markers can be copied from one track to another using the Copy Segment Markers to Track and Copy Selected Segment Markers to Track options available in a Track's context menu.

Syncing Markers on Connected Segments

Segment Markers can be synced between Connected Segments. All Segments Markers are copied to all connected segments when the Sync Connected Segments operation is performed while the Copy Markers on Sync option is enabled in the Connected Segment Preferences.

Selected Segments Markers can be synced using the Sync Connected Segment Markers option in the Segment Marker's context menu. This option must be used when Copy Markers on Sync is disabled.

Using the Marker Index Token

The Marker Index token is available for the Name and Comment text fields of a Marker.

  • The token returns the index, starting at 1, of a marker on a clip (markers) or segment (segment marker).
  • The token syntax is <marker>.
  • By default, the padding is set to 4 characters. This can be modified by adding the desired amount of # characters to the token.
