Paint Node Menu Settings

Mode Selection toggle

Toggles between Paint and Edit modes. In Paint mode, you add brush strokes to the canvas, while the list displays the sources connected to the Paint node. In Edit mode, you modify existing strokes, while the list displays the attributes of each stroke.

Add Still button

Creates a single frame source from the image in the viewport, adding it to the Batch Schematic and connected to the Paint node.

Source Controls

Displays the front clip, matte clip, and sources. The Sources list manages the sources attached to the current node. A source is composed of a front source and a matte source. See Using Sources. Also displays the Consolidate and Brush Set buttons.

Consolidate button

Consolidates multiple strokes into a single stroke. When multiple strokes are applied with Consolidate, they are not blended together but applied as if every stroke is part of one stroke. Consolidated strokes appear as one stroke in Edit mode. Changing a Brush Attributes and Paint setting starts a new set of strokes.

Add Source button

Click to add a new source node. Sources are used together with the Reveal paint mode.

Source Matte option box

Select Matte Off to paint anywhere on the canvas, Matte On to limit painting to areas on the source matte, or Matte Invert to limit painting to areas outside the source matte.

Sources List

Displays the sources attached to the current node, and which sources are locked (L) or hidden (H).

Select Reveals button

Selects all strokes made with the Reveal brush on the selected source. Only enabled when a Reveal stroke exists.

Brush Preset box

Define a Brush Preset by first selecting a preset number and then editing the Mode, Blending, and Brush Attributes. Recall a preset by clicking its number.

Preset Group box

Switch between brush presets 1-5 and 6-10.

Stroke Controls

When in Edit mode, every stroke created in Paint mode is displayed in the Strokes list. It displays for every stroke the paint type, the paint mode, the blending mode, the number of brush stamps, and the range of frames that display the stroke.

Strokes list

Lists the strokes applied to the current node. Every stroke is displayed, even the ones that are not used in the currently displayed frame. Strokes can be deleted, duplicated, hidden or reordered in the list. Use the Brush Attributes and the Paint settings to edit the brush used.

Solo Stroke toggle

Enable to display only the stroke currently selected in the Strokes list. A soloed stroke appears across the whole frame sequence, and ignores the visibility property set in the Strokes list with the eye icon.

Show All button.

Displays every stroke listed in the Strokes list. If Solo is active, only the selected stroke is displayed.

Duplicate button

Duplicates the selected stroke.

Delete Strokes button

From the menu, select between deleting the selected strokes or clearing the selected strokes at the current frame.

Edit Box toggle

Enable to display the edit box. Use the edit box to move, resize, or rotate the selected stroke.

Range

Paint On box

Select the frame or frames where the stroke is applied. Sets the From Stroke and To Stroke fields.

From Stroke field

Displays the first frame where the stroke appears. Editable.

To Stroke field

Displays the last frame where the stroke appears. Editable.

Animation

Animation Start field

Sets the start of the stroke along its path at the current frame.

Animation End field

Sets the end of the stroke along its path at the current frame.

Viewing Controls

Overlay button

Enable to show a reference clip overlaid onto the canvas.

Reference box

Select the view with the reference clip you want overlay. If you select a Src, also select a source from the Source list.

Transparency field

Set the transparency percentage of the reference clip. Editable.

Wipe Controls

Controls wiping the canvas at the current frame. See Using the Canvas.

Wipe button

Select to apply a uniform colour in a single brush stroke to the entire result image, the front only or the output matte only at the current frame.

Wipe colour pot

Select the wipe brush stroke. Editable.

Use Source button

Enable to use the source selected in the Source list to wipe over the image.

Canvas Controls

Controls clearing the canvas at the current frame. See Using the Canvas.

Delete Stokes button

From the menu, select between deleting all strokes on the clip or clearing only the strokes at the current frame.

Rotation field

Displays the angle of rotation used to rotate the canvas in the image window. Editable.

Matte Output Controls

Defines the area that can be used to paint. You can paint on the entire canvas or areas delimited by the matte properties. See Restricting Strokes with the Source Matte and Restricting Brush Strokes.

Use Matte button

Enable to limit brush strokes on the canvas to areas inside the matte.

Invert button

Enable to limit brush strokes on the canvas to areas outside the matte.

Paint Both button

Enable to paint on the result and output matte simultaneously.

Brush Attributes

Sets the size of the brush and other brush attributes affecting how paint is applied to the canvas.

Size field

Set the radius of the brush in pixels. Editable.

Rate field

Set the rate at which to apply brush strokes to the canvas. Use a higher percentage value to produce a smoother continuous stroke. Editable.

Fixed Rate button

Enable to make the stroke dependent on the speed at which you move the brush.

Pressure field

Set the transparency on the pressure and direction of the pen. Editable.

Jitter field

Set the level of dispersion. A lower value produces a greater concentration of paint. Editable.

Direction field

Set the percentage of a complete rotation to rotate the brush around the Z-axis. Editable.

Roll field

Set the percentage of a complete rotation to rotate the brush around the X-axis. Editable.

Brush Attribute Modes option box

Select an attribute as a reference value.

Paint Mode

Sets the type of paint operation that is applied to the brush. Some brushes paint in a colour; others use contents of the result or a source. See Using Paint Modes and Using Blending Modes.

Brush Type box

Select a shape to paint, or freeform painting.

Paint Modes box

Select the type of effect you want to apply to the brush.

Current Colour pot

Select the current brush colour. Editable.

Fade field

Displays how quickly the stroke fades when the Fade brush attribute mode is selected. A higher value fades the stroke faster.

X Offset field

Displays the horizontal coordinate for the Clone offset. Editable.

Y Offset field

Displays the vertical coordinate for the Clone offset. Editable.

Rotate field

Displays the angle of rotation to rotate the reference image. Editable.

Scale field

Displays the scale value of the reference image. Editable.

Blend Type box

Select the type of available blending modes.

Blending Mode box

Select the blending operation to apply to the brush colour components.

Opacity field

Displays the opacity of the brush. Use a lower value to apply a more transparent colour. Editable.

Brushes

Select a default brush profile to set it as the brush stroke.

Node Setup

Active button

Enable to activate smooth filtering of pixels for enhanced display.

Active Regen button

Disable when the graphics updates take too much time and prevent you from working properly.

Set Current as Default button

Sets the current Brush Presets as the default for all new Paint nodes.

Reverts to Factory

Restores the original presets for all new Paint nodes. Does not change the Brush Presets of the current node.

Axis

The Axis menu provides controls for the position, scale, and rotation of selected strokes. You also access the tracker from this menu.

X Position field

Displays the X position of the active stroke. Editable.

Y Position field

Displays the Y position of the active stroke. Editable.

X Scale field

Displays the scale of the X axis of the active stroke. Editable.

Y Scale field

Displays the scale of the Y axis of the active stroke. Editable.

Scale Proportionality button

Enable to scale the X and Y axes proportionally.

X Offset field

Displays the X offset from the track of the active stroke. Editable.

Y Offset field

Displays the Y offset from the track of the active stroke. Editable.

Rotation field

Displays the rotation of the active stroke. Editable.

Enter Tracker button

Opens the one-point tracker for the currently selected strokes. Opening the Tracker menu applies that track to the selected strokes. Clear the track in the Animation menu.

Tracked Layer box

Select the layer used by the tracker.

Tracker Mode box

Select Absolute to apply the tracking information to the Edit Box centre. Select Relative to apply the tracking offset to the each individual stroke.
