What's New in LookdevX for Maya (What's New in 2027)

LookdevX 2.0.0 for Maya adds expanded UV texture menus, portability, archiving, and updated icons.

LookdevX 2.0.0 adds UV editor functionality and improves workflow portability with relative paths and archiving support. The release also enhances the user interface with clearer icons. You can now work more efficiently with expanded node visibility. You also get better project portability and streamlined material migration workflows.

Expanded UV Editor texture menu

The UV Editor texture menu now displays all nodes with UV coordinate inputs. It no longer shows only shader and image nodes. You can work with ramp, checkerboard, tiled hexagon, noise, and other UV-based nodes directly in the texture menu. This makes it easier to preview procedural patterns. You can also adjust how these patterns map to your geometry.

Relative path support for MaterialX documents

MaterialX documents can now use relative paths instead of absolute paths. This makes it easier to move projects or share them with team members. When loading a MaterialX document, choose to make the path relative to your Maya scene file or workspace. Toggle between relative and absolute paths using the hamburger menu in the Attribute Editor. Save As and Export operations automatically update relative paths.

More flexible shading workflow in MaterialX 1.39.4

MaterialX has been updated to version 1.39.4, giving you more expressive shading graphs and improved material workflows. This update adds new surface models, expands utility, math, and texture nodes, and improves several existing nodes for clarity, flexibility, and performance. Legacy 1.38 documents are supported through an upgrade path.

Archive Scene support for MaterialX

File > Archive Scene now works with scenes containing MaterialX documents. It automatically includes all MaterialX files and referenced texture files. Use relative paths for best results. Archives with fully relative workflows extract and work correctly in new locations. Absolute paths may require manual repathing after extraction.

Updated icons

New icons improve clarity and consistency in the LookdevX interface. A new Fill icon appears in the toolbar for generative textures. This makes it easier to identify the fill function for quickly masking large areas. The Presets settings icon has been replaced with a three-dot menu icon in the Property Editor. This provides access to Save Preset and Delete Preset actions.
