Optimization Utility and Lattice Topology Utility

Lattice Assistant combines hollowing, lattice generation, Boolean merging, and perforation and plug generation in a single place. Use it to generate hollowed geometry with wall thickness of your specification, to generate and apply a lattice structure form a pattern, called unit topology, and to provision for draining of non-solidified resin or powder.

Lattice Assistant is available in Autodesk® Netfabb® Premium and, with an expanded feature set, in Ultimate.

Lattice Assistant is a module. Once any hollowing, latticing, and perforation is calculated, you apply the calculation results which generates the actual part.

Hollowing and Latticing

This generates a cavity (a hollowing shell) from a wall thickness parameter, then generates the repeating lattice, and finally merges it with the hollowed part.

The volume to be latticed is (internally) divided into cells. A default cell size is determined from the part's outbox size, and you may scale or edit the cell size. The lattice may also be shifted in X, Y, and Z against the part geometry.

Tip: Hollowing and Latticing produces the best results when the original mesh consists of regular-shaped triangles, such as those produced by remeshing with quads.

Perforation

Perforation generates holes with matching plugs to provide for drainage. Lattice Assistant automatically calculates, aligns, and positions holes and plugs from adjustable values.

Plugs and holes are circular, so they can be configured in their radii, and you may specify them to be conical in either direction. The hole depth is independent from the wall thickness: A shallower hole will simply not go all the way through, and a greater depth will generate a plug that is longer than the wall is thick. Finally, to ease plug insertion, a clearance can be specified that makes the plugs slightly narrower than the specified hole diameter.

Tip: Use Perforation after hollowing and latticing.
