Member Displacement

Select the Displacements tab from the Member Value Selection dialog to select member replacement parameters for presentation.

The following parameters may be defined in the results type field.

  • Member deflections (with respect to the chord of a displaced position of a member).
  • Maximum deflections. Enabling Position displays the point coordinates of the extreme value.
  • Member displacements (in the local system of the initial member position).
  • Drift ratio (dr/h) - ratio: difference of the member ends displacements to the member length (U1-U2) / L: in the global directions X, Y, total displacements on the XY plane and in the local member directions y, z

    total displacements on yz plane:

    in the global member system:

    dX = (UX1-UX2) / L

    dY = (UY1-UY2) / L

    dXY = sqrt((UX1-UX2)^2 + (UY1-UY2)^2) / L

    in the local member system:

    dy = (uy1-uy2) / L

    dz = (uz1-uz2) / L

    dyz = sqrt((uy1-uy2)^2+(uz1-uz2)^2) / L.

In the Components field you can select the following member displacement or deflection to be displayed.

  • UX - adds a table column to display displacements in the X-axis direction of the local member coordinate system
  • UY - adds a table column to display displacements/deflections in the Y-axis direction of the local member coordinate system
  • UZ - adds a table column to display displacements/deflections in the Z-axis direction of the local member coordinate system.

The total resultant displacement in the local system and whose value equals the root of the sum of squares of the displacements UX, UY, UZ can be selected.

Depending on the selection (deflection results or member displacements), the total displacement U is given with respect to the initial member position (U) or the chord of the displaced member (Uf).

Displacements in the global system are presented in the Nodal Displacements table.
