Specify Overview
Specify data requirements for assets using a straight-forward, three-step process.
To begin, open Autodesk Tandem and navigate to the Manage Tab. This is where you will configure Asset Classifications, Parameters, and Facility Templates.
Step 1: Configure Classifications
Classifications define asset types and groupings. Follow these steps to manage classifications:
Go to the Classifications tab.
Choose from our predefined library of classifications system or upload a custom Classification system. Uploading a custom classification system allows users and project members the flexibility to meet project requirements and deliverables.
To add a custom classification system:
Select a system from the drop-down and click Download to generate an Excel template.
Open the Excel file and edit the Code, Description, and Level fields to define hierarchical groupings.
Save the file and return to Autodesk Tandem.
Click Add Classification, provide a name, and upload the updated file.
For a more detailed explanation of how to create a custom classification system, read the available public forum post, Creating a Custom Classification.
Step 2: Define Parameters
Parameters capture asset properties. You can use predefined Parameters or create custom ones. To differentiate between custom and predefined Parameters, review the Source column. If it says Library, then it is predefined. To create a custom parameter:
- Navigate to the Parameters tab.
- Click Create Parameter and specify:
- Name
- Data Type
- Measurement System
- Unit of Measure (if applicable)
- Context (the most used are the element or type level)
- Click ok to save your parameters for use in Facility Templates.
Step 3: Create a Facility Template
Facility Templates are made up of Classification Systems and Parameters, which when utilized, allows for efficient and organized gathering of asset data.
- Open the Facility Templates tab on the Manage Page.
- Click Add Facility Template and choose a Classification System from the dropdown. Classification Systems with the lock symbol to the right of the name are pre-built and cannot be removed.
Assign parameters to asset groups by selecting the Class from the list on the left and then click Assign parameters
- When a parameter is applied to a Level, it will be inherited by sub-levels of the parent.
- Multiple parameters can be applied to a class for flexible data structuring.
- Once all the parameters have been applied to the correct classes in the template, click Update in the top right corner to save and create the template.
Applying a Facility Template
Once a facility template is created, it can be applied to the digital twin:
- Open the facility and go to the Assets tab.
- Click Apply Template and select the appropriate template then confirm by clicking Apply.
Update and Version Components
If data requirements change, facility templates, parameters, and classification systems can be updated as needed. All components are version-controlled to maintain data integrity.
By following these steps, you can efficiently structure asset data within Autodesk Tandem, ensuring consistency and accuracy across projects.
