You cannot directly edit a nesting study, but you can change properties of individual nests within a study. This enables you to experiment with different packagings, orientation values, item separation, and material use. When editing a nest, the changes you make take precedence over source properties for the shapes. So for example, in the Edit Nest dialog box, if you change the quantity of a shape, that quantity is used the next time you calculate the nest. The quantity specified in the Source Nesting Properties dialog box or the Properties dialog box for that shape will be bypassed. Since a nest is specific to one type of material, you cannot change the material type. However, you can select different packagings of that material to try and optimize material use, and you can change the list of shapes to nest, along with their nesting properties.
- Under the Nesting Study node in the
Inventor Nesting browser, right-click the nest you want to edit and select Properties.
The Edit Nest dialog box opens.
This dialog box is almost identical to the Create Nesting Study dialog box.
- Edit packaging, material usage method, list of shapes, positioning, and performance preferences as you would when creating the nest.
There are two options that are available in the Global Parameters tab that are not in the Create Nesting Study dialog box. (To use them, Override Material Parameters must be enabled.)
- Frame Width: How close shapes are allowed to be placed near the outer perimeter of the nesting area when using this material. This value takes priority over similar global settings for any materials and packagings used in the nest.
- Item Separation: The allowable distance between items in a nest. This value takes priority over the similar global settings for any materials used in the nest.
