Rename Files
Rename a file in a vault.
When renaming files, the Rename Wizard may not update the related files which reference the files being renamed until getting the files outside of Vault (eg. Get/Check Out, Pack and Go and etc.). New file names can be specified in the Rename wizard or a naming scheme can be selected for renaming. A report listing the files that were renamed can be exported from the Rename Wizard. Only rename files in the vault using the Rename Wizard. Files being renamed must be checked into the vault before renaming.
Most files in the vault can be renamed using the Rename wizard, including Autodesk AutoCAD .dwg files as well as Autodesk Inventor .dwg files. Some file types can also be renamed using the Copy Design wizard. The version of a renamed file is incremented. The Comment field for each file effected by the rename process contains the comment "Rename" to annotate that point in the file history.

Rename a File
You must be assigned the role of either Editor or Administrator to perform this action. Contact your vault administrator to verify your role.
Notes:
Files being renamed must be checked into the vault before renaming. iPart member files that use the key-based naming convention and custom iPart member files cannot be renamed. Automatically published visualization files are not supported.
It is not possible to rename a Revit file with references to another Revit file in vault. Vault cannot update the file reference in the parent file.
Select a file or files and then from the Edit menu, select Rename.
The Rename wizard opens and lists the file or files that were selected from the main pane.
Click Add Files to include other files to be renamed.
Click Next.
Related parent files will be updated on the next file download. If there are difficulties detected with updating certain related files, those files are listed in the Related Files tab.
Click Next.
The files to be renamed are listed.
Click in the New Name box for each file to enter a new file name.
Click Numbering Scheme to assign a numbering scheme to selected files, add prefixes and suffixes, or modify the file name directly. You can turn off the default prefix to retain the existing file name.
You can also copy paste values between multiple editable columns such as New Name, Update Part Number and Numbering Schema. This can save you a lot of time when working with large datasets.
Select Update Part Number to update the part number to reflect the new filename on renamed files.
Click Next.
The files you selected are checked out, provided you have the permissions to do so, renamed, and the results shown.
Optional: Save the changes as a report and add it to Vault.
