Machine definition tips

Unsuitable values of machine parameters may cause part issues or machine damage.

When editing a machine definition, follow these tips to help you avoid machine crashes and part damages.

Tips to help you avoid high-severity issues

Kinematics tab:

  • Define linear and rotary axes so that they match the machine requirements.

  • Set the Home positions of axes so that they enable the machine to fully retract.

Multi-axis tab:

  • If rewind of the machine is required for simultaneous multi-axis toolpath, select the Retract and reconfigure option.

Tips to help you avoid medium- and low-severity issues

Follow these tips to help you avoid part damage and other common configuration issues.

Capabilities tab:

  • Before you select the Automatic tool changer option, check that the machine uses an automatic tool changer.
  • Set a Number of tools that is within the range of the machine tool capability.

Kinematics tab:

  • Set the range limits for rotary axes that are sufficient to avoid collision.
  • Set the Max feedrate value that meets the machine requirements.

Multi-axis tab:

  • Select a Feedrate method that is supported by the machine.
  • Set a value of Tolerance for feedrate output that meets the machine requirements.
