Create a bounding solid
Open or create a design that contains a component or body.
On the Design workspace toolbar, click Solid > Create > Bounding Solid.
On the canvas, click the component or body.
In the Type group, select the shape for the bounding solid.
(Optional) To lock the relative position of the bounding solid and selected component so that they can move together as one, select the Rigid Group checkbox.
Note: This option works only when the bounding solid encloses components. If you're enclosing bodies, this option has no effect. In the Coordinate System group, set the orientation and origin:
Select an Orientation to choose how the bounding solid aligns with the selected component or body:
- Automatic: Automatically orients the bounding solid to create a the smallest bounding solid.
- Model Orientation: Orients the bounding solid to align with the coordinate system of the selected objects.
- Z Axis/Plane X Axis: Orients the bounding solid to a Z-axis and X-axis that you specify.
- Z Axis/Plane Y Axis: Orients the bounding solid to a Z-axis and Y-axis that you specify.
- X Y Axes: Orients the bounding solid to an X-axis and Y-axis that you specify.
- Coordinate System: Orients the bounding solid to an existing coordinate system in the design that you select. Use this option if your model doesn't have a suitable point and plane.
Select an Origin Mode to choose where to place the origin.
Click OK.
The bounding solid appears in the Browser and displays on the canvas.
Tip: You can use a bounding solid as the stock in manufacturing
