Use Site Designer to create parking lots in a site design.

When using Site Designer to create parking lots, consider the following guidelines:
- Parking lot families. Special Site Designer families for parking lots define the pavement depth and material, and the depth of the base and sub-base. See Load Families for Site Designer.
- Host lines. Before creating a parking lot, use the Model Line or Detail Line tool to create a closed loop for its host line. The host line represents the perimeter of the parking lot.
Note: Revit splines are not supported.
- Create parking lots. Use the Locate Parking Lot tool, and follow the general workflow in Create Site Elements.
- Curbs. To create a curb around a parking lot, create the parking lot first. Then use the Locate Curb tool to create the curb.
- Islands. First create the parking lot. Then use the Locate Curb tool to create closed-loop curbs within the perimeter of the parking lot. When generating the island, Site Designer adds an infill or capping toposurface. See About Curbs.
- Grades. After adding a parking lot, modify it to add or change its grade, catch basins, and grade planes.
- Quantities. Use the Site Designer Report tool to obtain base and sub-base materials quantities, as well as the gross surface area and gross volume of parking lots. Use Revit schedules to obtain the total cut and fill for the proposed site.
When creating a parking lot, Site Designer does the following:
- Updates the toposurface, cutting the pavement surface depth into it.
- Places a new parking lot toposurface.
- Assigns the parking lot material based on the selected family.
Breaklines
After creating a parking lot, use the Modify Parking Lot tool to access the Add Breakline tool. Use breaklines to create hard breaks on the parking lot surface to help you define high and low points, grading planes, and catch basin areas. You can add breaklines at a relative elevation from the current parking lot surface, at a constant elevation, or by grade.
