Learn the ways to create a combined weld symbol.
Create a combined weld symbol using two existing weld symbols
In this example, an "HY-J" combined weld symbol consisting of two existing weld symbols for automatic near side and far side welds is created.
To create a new combined weld symbol:
- In the Home tab or Tools tab Tools panel, click
(Management Tools).
- In Management Tools, click the Table Editor.
- In the Table Editor, click on the first icon (Open installed databases) in the top left corner of the window.
- Once the databases are loaded, click AstorBase.
- Under AstorBase, navigate to and click on the WeldType table to open it in the right side of the window.
- In the WeldType table, look for and write down the key numbers associated with the desired weld symbols (in this case, 6 for HY and 8 for J).
- Next, under AstorBase, navigate to and click on the CombiWelding table.
- In the CombiWelding table, fill in the description for the new combined weld symbol on the first available line at the bottom of the table:
- Key: next available number.
- RunName: the desired name, for example "HY-J".
- Top: The key number associated with the near side weld, 6 for HY weld in this case.
- Bottom: The key number associated with the far side weld, 8 for J in this case.
- Close the Management Tools window.
- In the Home tab Settings panel, click
(Update defaults).
- The new combined weld symbol is available in the Weld dialog:
Create a combined weld symbol based on the weld connected elements
Automatically combine weld symbols corresponding to welds connecting elements with the same single part numbers.
To automatically create a combined weld symbol:
- In the Home tab or Tools tab Tools panel, click
(Management Tools).
- In Management Tools, click Defaults.
- In the Defaults tab, navigate to Drawing-General General.
- On the right side of the window, scroll down and check the box next to the default called "Weld symbols combine only if the weld point connects the same object(s) in the model".
Note: When checked, weld symbols that are in a certain distance range will only combine if they connect elements with the same single part numbers. This default only applies to weld symbols in assembly drawings.
