Customize the Cut Symbol Text

Use tokens or plain text to configure the text attribute in the cut symbol DWG template file.

The text displayed by the cut symbol is controlled by the Attribute Definition object present on any cut symbol resource file.

The attribute definition object controls the text that will appear in the symbol (using tokens or plain text) and the text formatting (color, size, position, etc.).

Text Content

The relevant information that Advance Steel writes in the cut symbol when creating a detail drawing is taken from the attribute configuration.

To access the attribute configuration, double-click on the attribute to open the Edit Attribute Definition dialog.

The Tag and Prompts fields should remain unchanged.

The Default field contains the cut symbol text configuration. Here you can add tokens (such as %Name) or plain text.

To add tokens or text to the cut view symbol:
  1. Open the DWG template file (e.g. CutSymbolUp.dwg, CutSymbol.dwg) located by default in … \ProgramData\Autodesk\Advance Steel 2022\[INSTALLATION LANGUAGE]\Shared\Support\Symbols\
  2. Double-click on the text attribute to access the Properties menu.
  3. You can add tokens and user text in the Default field.
  4. To add tokens, in the Default field insert:
    1. %Name - this token will display the view name.
    2. %DrawingNumber - this token will display the drawing number of the sheet where the view is currently on.
Note: Besides tokens, you can edit the text using any other characters or blank spaces.
  5. Apply the changes by saving and closing the template file.
Note: To use the template with the applied changes, you need to generate new detail drawings. The cut symbol graphic on any older files will NOT update to use the new template.

Cut Symbol Text Formatting

The cut symbol text uses the text style to control the font, height and width.

To make this configuration from the template:

  2. In the dialog, click New to create a new style for the cut symbol.
Note: If you use individual DWG templates for the top and bottom cut symbols, and the text needs to be different, then the style names need to be different as well.
  3. Configure the text style as needed.
  4. Click Apply to save the changes and close the dialog.
  5. Right-click on the text attribute in the template and select Properties from the contextual menu.
  6. In the Attribute Definition properties, under Text, choose the new style from the Style drop-down list.
To configure the cut symbol text color from the template:
  1. In the Attribute Definition properties, under Text, choose the new style from the Style drop-down list.
  2. In the Attribute Definition properties, under General, choose the color the Color drop-down list.
Note: If ByLayer is selected, the color will be set according to the Management Tools "Color of detail title text" default value.
