Workflow: Positioning

When starting a new project, perform the following tasks to establish context for the model.

  1. Specify the geographic location to indicate its real-world location using global coordinates.
  2. Define the survey point to match a known point in the physical world.

Use survey coordinates from the civil engineer, or determine the coordinates of a known location, such as a geodetic survey marker or the intersection of 2 property lines.

  3. Rotate True North to define the Y axis of the survey point.
  4. Define the project base point to establish a reference for measuring distances and positioning objects within the context of the model.

When importing or linking other models, use the appropriate Positioning option.

If you need to coordinate the locations of multiple buildings using shared coordinates, see Shared Positioning.
