Create a Toposolid from Imported Data

Automatically generate a toposolid based on 3D contour data imported from DWG, DXF, DGN, or CSV points files.

Revit analyzes the data and places a series of elevation points along the contour lines.
Note: When importing files that exceed 10,000 points, Revit down samples the points to a limit of 10,000 points. This down sampling might occur when the imported site is very large, or has significant changes in elevation. The reduced number of points will approximate the topography as accurately as possible. If more accuracy is needed, consider breaking the imported file into separate smaller sections so down sampling does not occur. Multiple smaller files may decrease system performance.

When importing contour data, follow these requirements:

To create a toposolid by importing contour data

  1. Open a 3D view.
  2. Click Massing & Site tabModel Site panel Toposolid (Create from Import).
  3. On the Modify | Create Toposolid from Import tab, Toposolid panel, click (Create from CAD) or (Create from CSV).
    • CAD Option - Select the imported 3D CAD file in the drawing area.

The Add Points from Selected Layers dialog displays.

Select the layers to which you want to apply elevation points, and click OK.

    • CSV Option - In the Open dialog, navigate to the location of the points file.

In the Format dialog, specify the units used to measure the points in the points file (for example, decimal feet or meters), and click OK.

Revit generates points and a toposolid from the coordinate information in the file.
