Create or edit a title block

Learn how to create and edit a title block on a sheet in the Drawing workspace.

Templates

If you plan to reuse title blocks, borders, document settings, or sheet settings across multiple drawings, create a drawing template to save time and apply consistent standards. You can also create placeholder views and placeholder tables that automatically generate drawing views and part lists from the referenced design when you use the template to create a new drawing.

Create a new title block

After you create or open a drawing, on the current sheet:

  1. Select the title block, right-click, then select New Title Block.

    The New Title Block dialog displays.

  2. In the New Title Block dialog, select one of the 3 Source settings, and adjust its associated settings:

    • From Existing
      • Origin Block: Select an existing title block from the dropdown menu.
      • Name: Type a unique name.
    • From Scratch
      • Name: Type a unique name.
    • From DWG File
      • DWG File: Click the Open icon and select a DWG file.
      • Name: Type a unique name.
  3. Click OK.

    You will enter the Title Block contextual environment and the Title Block dialog displays.

  4. In the Title Block dialog, adjust the linetype, lineweight, and display settings.

  5. On the toolbar:

    • click any command in the Geometry panel to create geometry
    • click any command in the Modify panel to modify geometry
    • click any command in the Text panel to create text or attributes
    • click the Measure command to measure geometry
    • click the Image command to insert an image
  6. On the toolbar, click Finish Title Block.

You exit the Title Block contextual environment and the new title block displays on the sheet.

Edit the current title block

  1. Select the title block and right-click.

  2. Select Edit Title Block.

    You will enter the Title Block contextual environment and the Title Block dialog displays.

    Note: You cannot edit the default title block. If you try to edit the default title block, the New Title Block dialog displays, where you can create a new title block.
  3. Use the commands in the toolbar and the Title Block dialog to create, modify, or delete geometry.

  4. On the toolbar, click Finish Title Block.

Tip: You can move the Title Block if you need by using the Move command.
