Best Practices: Coordination Spaces

Model Coordination accesses model data through coordination spaces. Project administrators create coordination spaces and configure them against folders in Autodesk Docs. Each coordination space points to one folder and its subfolders and the models they contain.

Coordination spaces can be set up with automatic clash turned on or turned off. When automatic clash is turned on, a new clash test is run every time a model is uploaded to ensure you always have the latest results. With automatic clash turned off, access to the latest version of the project is faster. If you are running clash detective in Navisworks, clash off spaces may be a good option for you.

Note: You cannot change the Automatic Clash setting for an existing coordination space. Depending on your workflow, you may want to create two coordination spaces configured with the same folders, one with Automatic Clash enabled the other with Automatic Clash disabled. The project team can use the clash off coordination space to verify constructability for the aggregated models.

Keep in mind the following best practices when working with coordination spaces:

  • You can have a maximum of 20 active clash coordination spaces at one time. Any coordination spaces inactive for 60 days or more are deactivated until a new model is uploaded to the corresponding folder.
  • You can have a maximum of 150 root folders for clash and nonclash coordination spaces.
  • Each clash coordination space can have a maximum of 1000 models.
  • Create multiple coordination spaces to represent separate areas or phases of a project, or different trades or teams. Create one coordination space per building, or if the building is large, per zone or area.
