Load and Unload Exchange

This topic details how you can load and unload exchanges using the Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Inventor.

Load an Exchange

The load feature allows you to view and load a exchange from Autodesk Docs to your Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Inventor.

  1. Click Data Exchange under the Collaborate tab.

  2. Click Load exchange.

  3. You will view a list of the exchanges you can access in Autodesk Docs. You can also switch between different projects from the project drop-down list.

  4. Select your project, select the exchange, and click Load or select Advanced Load option from the dropdown.

  5. To specify the Import location, select the required option.

    • Load Exchange at Default Location: The geometry will be placed at the origin. (coordinates 0,0,0).
    • Load Exchange at Specific Coordinates: The geometry will be positioned at a user-defined location.
    • Pick Point for Exchange Placement: The geometry will be inserted at a point selected by the user.
    • Relocate Exchange: The geometry will be inserted at a location determined by a mouse event.

  6. Click Load.

  7. The exchange process can be canceled at any time by clicking the Cancel button.

    installation

  8. If you do not select "Cancel", the exchange is listed in the connector interface after the load is completed. The progress bar will then display the count of imported items.

Important: The Down Arrow button besides the exchange indicates that the exchange is loaded from Autodesk Docs and not created by you. If you change the model, you can only create an exchange with the latest changes but cannot update an existing one in Autodesk Docs.

Load the Latest Version of an Exchange

When a newer version of an exchange is available in Autodesk Docs, you can use the Load the latest feature in the connector to refresh, view, and load the latest version. Additionally, the Push Events feature automatically notifies users when one or more exchanges in the list have new versions available. A blue dot appears in the interface to indicate these updates.

  1. Click the refresh icon to check if any of the exchanges you've loaded to the connector have newer versions available in Autodesk Docs.

  2. Select the relevant exchange which needs to be updated from the list.

    installation

  3. Click the More menu and click Load the latest from the drop-down list. The exchange will update with the latest changes and versions up (for example, V1 to V2). Note: To load the latest geometry, it will be placed in the same spot as the older version (V1). You can choose to place it using the same positioning options you used before.

Unload an Exchange

You can unload the selected exchange and remove it from the connector interface. While this feature allows you to remove the exchange from the connector interface, it does not remove the exchange from Autodesk Docs or the associated data from the Inventor model. This means that although the exchanges may not be visible in the interface, they are still available in Autodesk Docs and Inventor software.

  1. Select the exchange from the connector interface list.

    installation

  2. Click the More menu and click Unload exchange from the drop-down list. It unloads the Data exchange and removes it from the interface.

Unload a Deleted Exchange from the Connector Interface

You can unload or remove exchanges from the connector interface when the corresponding exchanges are deleted and no longer available in Autodesk Docs.

  1. Open Inventor model which references the deleted exchange in Autodesk Docs.

  2. Open the connector interface and click the refresh icon.

  3. Click Yes to keep the associated elements in your model or No to remove the associated elements from your model.

    installation

  4. It removes the deleted exchange from the connector interface.
