Exercise 2: Import Data into the Industry Model

Convert existing data to industry model data by importing it. Map the original attributes of a feature class to the industry model schema.

To convert and import data into an industry model

  1. Click Insert tab > Import panel > Convert To Industry Model.
  2. In the Convert To Industry Model window, click Add File-based Sources under Source Data at the top left of the window.
  3. Navigate to the source data file and click Open.
  4. Under All Models, click the empty field.
  5. Click the down arrow to see the available feature classes.
  6. Select the appropriate feature class.
  7. Click the arrow to the left of the field to see the properties for the feature class.

The Convert To Industry Model window displays the properties for the data source you are importing.

  8. For each property to map, click the corresponding field under All Models.

For example, if you are importing a conductor feature class, you might click the empty field corresponding to the Name_Number property. You do not have to map every property, and some properties in the original data store will not have equivalents in the industry model.

  9. Type the first few letters of the property to see the industry model property that matches it.

For example, if you are mapping a property called ID_PHASE, type ph to see the Phase property in the list.

  10. Select the matching entry in the list.
  11. When you have mapped the attributes you need, select Reinitialize And Validate Topology.

This setting ensures that any connectivity data in the original data source is imported and used by the industry model.

  12. Click Convert.

The data is imported and displayed in your map.
