In the second lesson, you connect to background data and you import data into the industry model schema.
When you connect to data, you can see the connected data in your map and you can edit it if you like. Your changes affect the original data store.
When you convert data to the industry model schema by importing, you break the connection between that data in your map and its original data store. Changes you make affect the map only. Converting data to an industry model lets you work with the data's connectivity as well as its properties and geometry. For example, you can add an electrical service point and then connect that service point to a transformer using a conductor.
