Blue Pencil limitations

The following are a list of known limitations with the Blue Pencil tool:

Tip: The Profiler includes Blue Pencil events for troubleshooting performance.
• Blue Pencil does not support these Maya Creative features:

  • Arnold Viewport
  • Hardware 2.0 Renderer
• If you use File Referencing to reference Blue Pencil drawings into another scene, they do not appear. They are meant to be added to the final scene. See Import or Export Blue Pencil frames.
• The Blue Pencil Text tool does not support Chinese or Japanese characters. You can instead copy and paste Chinese or Japanese characters from a text editor into Blue Pencil text box.
• There are two issues using a tablet on Windows OS with Windows Ink enabled:
  • There is a lag at the beginning of drawing a stroke.
  • Single-clicking with the stylus in the Viewport does not work, for example to draw a dot or open the Text box.

  If either of these events occur, set the Tablet API setting in the Interface Preferences to Wintab.

• Blue Pencil frames in the Time Slider cannot move to half or fractional frames if you scale keys. See Work with Blue Pencil frames.
