Crushable Foam

This material is used only in Explicit Dynamics analysis. After selecting Crushable Foam (MATCF) from the Type menu, the following Material sections are available: General, Structural and Crushable Foam.

  • General and Structural

Values input in these two sections include Young's modulus, shear modulus, Poisson's ratio, thermal expansion coefficient, and mass density.

    • The deviatoric plasticity is pressure dependent and the Model menu can be used to specify a Linear or Quadratic dependence on pressure.
    • With a Linear dependence, this model is similar to a classical Drucker-Prager material model. When Model is Linear, the user should specify the yield stress at zero pressure, A0 and a constant slope for the yield stress as a function of pressure, SLOPE.
    • If Model is Quadratic, the user should specify A0, SLOPE, the pressure as the specified slope, PS, and the yield at the specified slope YS.
    • The pressure versus volumetric strain behavior can be defined using a piecewise linear curve, where volumetric plasticity and volumetric bulking can be specified in the compression regime.
    • The Volumetric strain and Pressure data in the table define the piecewise linear behavior of the pressures versus volumetric strain in compression. At least 2 points must be provided, in which case a linear response in compression is defined. The first point (EV0,PV0) must be defined at zero strain and pressure.
