Set up CAD attribute mappings
Item attributes contain important meta-data about the parts and assemblies you create in Upchain. This could be information about the physical properties, cost, supplier or manufacturer information, and properties synced from your CAD or ERP systems.
Upchain has a number of default properties that you can view in the item attributes section of the Administration pages and on the items themselves. However, you should also determine if there is any additional information you need to store for each item. For that, you can create custom attributes. You can read more about the default attributes and creating custom ones here.
You can map item attributes to the CAD files or read values from the CAD files to automatically fill in certain item attributes. An attribute mapped to CAD will be updated any time a CAD file associated with an item is checked out from Upchain and checked back in (or saved). This saves you time by only having to enter information in one location and have it appear in both the CAD files and Upchain automatically.
Requirements
To set up CAD attribute mappings, you must be logged into Upchain as a Tenant Admin.
Set up a CAD mapping
To set up a CAD mapping:
Select an item attribute from the list.
Its detail view opens on the right.
Click Edit.
For CAD mappings, select Read, Write, or None.
- Read - The attribute is read from the CAD file and written to Upchain.
- Write - The attribute is written to the CAD file from the attribute in Upchain.
- None - The attribute is not read from nor written to the CAD file.
Click Add Mapping.
Select the CAD system to which you want to map the attribute.
Enter the name of the equivalent attribute you want to map it to. If the attribute is being read from the CAD files, the value you enter here must match exactly how it appears in the CAD file.
Click Save.
The mapping is now saved. The next time users check in (or save) a CAD file into Upchain, the mapping will take effect.
