Thicken a surface

Learn how to use the Thicken tool to create a solid body from a surface or face in Fusion.

  1. In the Design workspace, Solid tab, select Create > Thicken. The Thicken dialog displays.
  2. In the Thicken dialog, deselect Chain Selection only if you want to select specific faces or surfaces.
  3. In the Canvas, select a face or faces to thicken.
  4. Specify the Thickness value one of two ways:
    • In the canvas, drag the manipulator handle.
    • In the dialog, enter a positive value to thicken the exterior surface or enter a negative value to thicken the interior surface.
  5. In the dialog, specify a Direction to thicken:

    • symmetric icon Symmetric: Thickens symmetrically on both sides of the selected faces.
  6. Select a Thicken Type:
    • Sharp Thicken: Creates sharp thicken corners.
    • Rounded Thicken: Creates rounded thicken corners.

    • new body icon New Body: Creates a new body in the active component.
    • new component icon New Component: Creates a new body in a new component.
  8. Click OK.

The thickened surface body displays in the canvas.

Note: Thicken cannot remove a face, so the maximum thickness value is the distance where a face disappears.
