Tutorial: Axial Check Valve (Motion)

In this tutorial, we simulate flow-driven, linear motion within an axial check valve to determine the valve opening distance for a certain water flow rate.

The ends were capped in the CAD tool, which caused the flow volume to be created automatically. Note that an alternative CAD strategy would have been to omit the caps in the CAD tool and create the internal volume using the Void Fill Geometry Tool in Autodesk Simulation CFD.

A spring provides resistance on the poppet, and keeps it closed while the flow rate is below a certain threshold. As the flow rate increases, the poppet opens as the hydrodynamic forces overcome the resistive spring force.

As part of the setup, we define the initial position of the poppet, the limits of travel of the poppet, and the parameters of the resistance spring.
