Learn how to set up Advance Steel to provide element numbering for both assemblies and parts using a mix of configuration and workflow adjustments to allow automatic rules to create the part marks following a set of parameters during the automatic identical part detection and numbering process.

About Numbering
Before creating the project documentation, the structure must be numbered. The basis for numbering is finding identical parts that should have the same mark. Each object in Advance Steel has two part marks: a single part number and an assembly part number.

Ungroup Identical Parts
Parts with the same mark are managed internally as a group. If the mark of a part is changed, all the other part marks within a group will change. This tool extracts parts from such a group. The part marks are also deleted and you can give a different number.

Check for Duplicate Part Numbers
This tool checks all parts of a group of elements with the same part mark to see if they are still identical.
Identify Objects with Duplicate Part Numbers
The model is searched for objects of a given part number. If these objects are not identical they are highlighted in different colors.
Differences Between Two Objects
This tool compares two objects and lists the differences in a window. It is useful to display the differences between two objects with the same part mark.
Display Objects with Identical Part Number
This tool is useful if two objects are apparently different but show the same part number. All items with the same part number are highlighted in red when selected.
Select Objects with Different Part Numbers
This tool selects and highlights only a single object of each group of elements with the same assembly or single part mark (depending on the Single Parts / Assemblies switch).
Mark the Main Part of an Assembly
This tool highlights the main part of an assembly in blue and all attached parts in red. A prerequisite is that the selected assembly has a main part previously identified.
Mark Loose Parts
This tool searches the entire model for loose parts (i.e. parts that leave the workshop without any connection to other parts). Any objects that are found are highlighted in red.
Mark Parts without Number
This tool searches the entire model (depending on the Single Parts / Assemblies switch) for structural parts that do not have a part mark (e.g. because they were created after the numbering).
Numbering with Tokens
Learn how you can assign new information to element marks using tokens.
Use Holes for Numbering
You can choose to ignore the holes on elements during numbering - this gives you the possibility to have the same part mark for similar elements which only have different hole pattern characteristics.
