BOM Settings Dialog Box (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

Use this dialog box to configure component properties and set up defaults for parts lists, balloons and data capture for the BOM.

Revision

Displays the name and the revision of the standard that controls the default settings of parts lists.

Available component properties

Contains a list of component properties that can be used as columns for BOMs and parts lists. To make a property visible in the BOM, Parts list or in the Component Property section of the Part Reference dialog box and Properties dialog box, drag the property from this list to the list of properties in the corresponding tab.

Property

Defines the name of the component property. This name uniquely identifies a component property. This is the name by which a BOM column is referred to in formulas.

Caption

Defines the column header to be displayed for this property, when it is used as a column in a BOM table or parts list.

Data type

Specifies the data type for the property.

The text data type allows all alphanumeric characters while the numeric data type allows only numeric characters 0 -9. If you need to store a value such as 4 1/2”, you must set the data type to Text.

Value

Specifies the default value for the property. When you click in a cell, the button appears. Click to launch the expression builder, which will assist you create formulas and pre-defined lists (drop-down lists containing possible values) for the property. If required, you can enter the formula or the pre-defined list directly, without using the expression builder.

If the text in this column is red, it means that the expression contains a syntax error. If you invoke the expression builder at this time, it will show you entries up to the position the syntax error occurs.

Note: Only syntax errors in expressions for pre-defined lists are shown in this manner.

Precision

Specifies the number of decimals to be used round off numerical data for that property. Precision is defined in the form of 0.000 where the number of zeros (0) after the decimal point indicates the number of decimals to use.

Lead zero

Specifies the number of leading zeros (0) to be used when displaying numerical data for that property. Leading zeros are defined in the form of 00.0 where the number of zeros (0) before the decimal point indicates the minimum number of digits that must exist before the decimal point.

Lock

Prevents the component property data from being edited in the BOM, Parts List, Part Reference and Properties dialog boxes.

Sum

Controls if the component property should be summed and displayed in the result bar of the BOM and Parts List dialog boxes.

New

Displays the last row of the Available component properties list, to enable you to add a new row and thereby create a user-defined component property.

Tip: It is better to use the pre-defined component properties User1 to User8 (available via the More button) as these are better supported by the system. For example, when creating custom parts lists, to be able to properly fit text into columns, you must use property ids. The property ids for user defined columns are not known before hand and hence cannot be supported. However, the property ids for the pre-defined columns are known.

Delete

Removes the row selected in the Available component properties list. If the property is a user-defined property, the property is deleted. If not the property is added to the list of additional pre-defined component properties. The additional component properties are shown in the more component properties dialog box, which appears when you click the More button. This Delete button is available only if the entire row is selected.

More

Opens a list of additional pre-defined component properties to add to the Available component properties list.

Add to

Adds the row selected in the Available component property list, to the list of properties in the currently selected tab below the Available component properties list. This button is not available if the entire row is not selected or if the current tab is the Balloon tab.

Component properties tab

Component properties list

Displays the component properties that are visible in the Part Reference dialog box and Properties dialog box.

Property

Displays the name of the component property.

Display prompt

Defines the prompt to be displayed for that property in the Part References dialog box and Properties dialog box. For example, you can set the caption for the Name property to Enter the name of the component.

Move Up

Moves the selected row or range of rows in the Component properties list, one position up. This button is available only if entire rows are selected.

Move Down

Moves the selected row or range of rows in the Component properties list, one position down. This button is available only if entire rows are selected.

Remove

Removes the selected row or range of rows from the Component properties list. This button is available only if entire rows are selected.

Sync

Synchronizes the component properties list with the component properties list in the BOM tab. Consequently, all component properties visible in the BOM will be made visible in the Part Reference dialog box and the Properties dialog box.

Note: Sync does not add QTY and ITEM.

BOM tab

Component properties list

Displays the component properties that are visible in the BOM dialog box.

Property

Displays the name of the component property.

Caption alignment

Defines the how the column headings are aligned in the BOM dialog box.

Value alignment

Defines the how the data rows are aligned in the BOM dialog box.

Default View

Sets how BOM items are displayed by default.

Note: The Default view is not visible if you are working in the GOST standard.

Expanded (parts only)

Sets BOM representation to the expanded view, where BOM items correspond to parts and parts from the different assemblies are summed together. However, parts from xref assemblies are not merged with parts from the host drawing nor are they merged with parts from other xref assemblies.

Structured

Sets BOM representation to the structured view, where parts are collected under the assemblies they belong to and are summed only within that assembly.

Use Assembly Path

Appends the item number of the assembly to the front of the item number of a part. For example, if the item number of the assembly is 2 and the separator is “-”, the item numbers of the parts that belong to that assembly will typically be 2-1, 2-2 and so on.

Separator

Specifies the character to use as the separator.

Parts list tab

Note: The Parts list tab is not visible if you are working in the GOST standard.

Component properties list

Displays the component properties that are visible in Parts Lists, by default.

Property

Displays the name of the component property.

Caption alignment

Defines the how the column heading are aligned in parts lists.

Value alignment

Defines the how the data rows are aligned in parts lists.

Width

Defines the column width for the property in the parts list.

Move Up

Moves the selected row or range of rows in the Component properties list, one position up. This button is available only if entire rows are selected.

Move Down

Moves the selected row or range of rows in the Component properties list, one position down. This button is available only if entire rows are selected.

Standard

Switches the parts list style to a standard based parts list.

Displays a dialog box, which enables you to customize settings applicable to standard based parts lists.

Balloon tab

Category

Displays different categories of references or functions that you can use in the expression for balloon text. This option is not available for custom balloons (because the expression to use for balloon text is defined within the block used for the custom balloon).
