Geotechnical Modeler Data Display Settings

The Geotechnical Modeler allows you to do more than just display the sticklogs on the profile view; it supports the display of additional sample data and annotations. The additional sample data and annotations can be configured before the profile view is placed or updated after the fact. Follow the steps below to configure the Subsurface Profile View display settings:

  1. Click Geotechnical Modeler tab Geotechnical Modeler Panel Subsurface Profiles to open the Subsurface Profiles dialog box.
  2. The middle third of the Subsurface Profiles dialog box has individual tabs to control the display of Sample Data (Left), Sticklog (Center), and the Labels (Right) which are located on the left, center and right respectively. Note that the values depicted here are in inches indicating paperspace size and height.

profile

  1. The Sticklog (Center) tab allows you to configure the display and size of various sticklog components and annotations including:
  • StickLog Width to control the overall width of the sticklog shown on the profile view.

  • Header Height to control the height of the location label above the sticklog.

  • Location Label to toggle on or off the display of the borehole location label. This label displays the borehole ID, top of borehole elevation, and the offset from the baseline alignment used in the profile view.

The example below shows two location labels. The elevation displayed is for the top of borehole and the offset value indicates the perpendicular distance between the alignment and that borehole. A negative offset value indicates that the borehole is located to the left of the alignment (counting up-station) and a positive value indicates the borehole is located to the right of the alignment. For example, the image below indicates the BH128 located 18.8 feet to the right of the alignment and BH129 is located 16.7 feet to the left of the alignment.

  • Location Line to toggle on or off the display of a simple graphic-only display to depict the offset distance and offset side of the borehole sample in relation to the baseline alignment used in the profile view.

The example below shows two location lines.

The elevation displayed is for the top of borehole. The length of the blue line (must consider vertical exaggeration of the profile) indicates the perpendicular distance between the alignment and that borehole.

The location marker (the white circle containing an x) indicates whether the borehole is located to the left or right of the alignment (counting upstation). A marker located above the top of the sticklog indicates that the borehole is located to the left of the alignment, while a marker located below the top of the sticklog indicates that the borehole is located to the right of the alignment.

line

  • Location Line Width to configure the thickness of the location line components.
  • Location Line Color to change the RGB (red, green, and blue) display color of the location line.
  • Solid Filled Strata to toggle on or off the generation of solid hatch patterns. See the procedure below for additional information.
  1. The Sample Data (Left) tab allows you to configure the display and size of additional sample data and annotations including:
  • Grid Lines to toggle on or off the display of the grid lines at the sticklog.
  • Sample Type to toggle on or off the display of the header text to label the sample type.
  • Blow Count to toggle on or off the display of blow count data along the left side of the sticklog.
  • Label Height to configure the height of the label text for left side annotations.
  • Axis Space to configure the distance between the left side annotation labels and the sticklog geometry.
  1. The Labels (Right) tab allows you to configure the display and size of additional data and annotations including:
  • Water Table to toggle on or off the insertion of a water table symbol next to the sticklog.
  • Soil / Material Name to toggle on or off the display of the labels to annotate the soil / material type shown in the sticklog.
  • Label Height to configure the height of the label text for right side annotations.
  • Label Space to configure the distance between the right-side annotation labels and the sticklog geometry.
  1. Select Create Subsurface Profile to configure the profile view display options prior to placing the profile view the first time or Update Subsurface Profile if the profile view already exists.
