View Transform Tool

The View Transform tool allows you to bake in the same colour processing the viewports apply on the fly. Use the View Transform tool to use a viewing transform to convert from a tagged or working colour space to a display colour space by:

  1. From the Tagged Colour Space menu, select the colour space of the incoming clip. Choose "From Source" to have the input space set automatically.
  2. Select the display you want to convert to from the Display menu. Choose "Current Video Preview Device" to use the setting configured in Colour Management Preferences.
  3. Select the view you want to apply from the View menu. Select "From Rules" to use the highest priority view for the given Tagged Colour Space and Display. Select from the "All Views" sub-menu to choose one of the other views defined in the OCIO config for this display.
Important: The list of views is determined based on the selected Tagged Colour Space and Display (just like in the viewports), so set those first before selecting a View.

The automatic conversion algorithm will first convert from the tagged colour space to the colour space expected by the view transform. Then the view transform will be applied. The algorithm will convert from the output space of the view transform to the requested display space.

The processing for this tool is provided by an OCIO DisplayViewTransform. The options in the Display menu are the displays listed in your OCIO config. The options in the "All Views" sub-menu of the View menu are the views present in your OCIO config for the selected display. The viewing rules in your OCIO config are used to filter the views shown at the top level of the menu based on the selected Tagged Colour Space. The "From Rules" option will apply the highest priority view for the selected colour space and display. This may adjusted in the Views Editor.

In MediaHub, when the Tagged Colour Space is set to "From File or Rules", the contents of the View menu are generic and won't reflect the viewing rules until the media has been imported. However, the "From Rules" option will still be correct. Setting the Tagged Colour Space manually will allow the View menu to update.

Please note that the active displays and active views lists in the config file may further reduce or filter the items shown in the menus. In addition, changes you make in the View Editor in the Preferences further adjusts the items available in the View Transform tool menus.

By enabling the Invert button, you are able to convert from a display space to a working colour space via an inverse view transform. This is sometimes useful for bringing video material into a scene-linear working space. When these scene-linear values later play out through the forward view transform, the result will look the same as the original material. For additional details, see: Linearizing Video Images.
