This topic lists the additions and improvements incorporated in InfoWorks® WS Pro Version 2024.2 which were not available in previous versions.
Please note that this new version also includes various bug fixes that are described in detail in the Release Notes.
WS Pro Exchange for Autodesk
WS Pro Exchange is the IExchange implementation of InfoWorks WS Pro for our Autodesk products. It is an advanced programming feature that allows you to run scripts from a command prompt. See WS Pro Exchange for Autodesk or you can download the Exchange document for further information.
Cloud capabilities
This release version builds upon the cloud integration launch that started in version 2024. Learn more here.
SQL and spatial search
It is now possible to carry out spatial searches using the SPATIAL keyword, between any two network layers, or between a network layer and a GIS layer. You can take advantage of using the SPATIAL keyword for spatial searches that allows a mixture of lines in the SQL block, some of which use the spatial search and some of which do not.
SQL dialog improvements
The SQL Dialog - SQL page has been improved to include Nearest in the drop-down options for Search Type. This new option searches for nearest network object within a specified distance. If there is more than one object within the specified distance, the first one found is returned as the result.
Moreover, the Layer option is expanded to include options for Network layer and GIS Layer. Take note that only those layers loaded in the GeoPlan window before the SQL dialog is opened will be available in the drop-down list.
Don't update geometry option in Open Data Import Centre dialog
A new option to don't update geometry is now available in the Open Data Import Centre dialog. It is recommended that you select this option when you are updating ArcGIS, Oracle, or SQL Server. If enabled, existing objects will not have their geometry changed, even if the geometry has changed in the imported GIS data.
Produce regulating valve diagnostic files
If more information is required for regulating valves, for example when one or more are notified as being unstable in the engine run log, a simulation option, Produce regulating valve diagnostic files, is made available in Simulation Defaults and Simulations Options. When selected, this will generate, in the results folder for the database, one CSV file per pressure and/or flow regulating valve with name of the form: PSV, etc. This feature is not yet available for regulating valves under UPC control.
Use regulating valve curve gradient limiter
For regulating valves, the engine calculates an upper limit to the opening change from an evaluation of the friction value for the valve required to achieve the target pressure or flow and the gradient of the valve curve. This upper limit is applied if the Use regulating valve curve gradient limiter option is selected in Simulation Defaults and Simulations Options. Values for this limit can be seen by using the associated option: Produce regulating valve diagnostic files with output in the field "change_limit".
If the magnitude of this value is less than the final opening change calculated by the engine ("final_op_change") and the valve is potentially unstable or taking many iterations to achieve regulation, limiting the opening change may help with stability.
For pressure regulating valves, this option is not used if the control node is a reservoir and for flow regulating valves, this option is already automatically applied for remote control links and this option therefore only applies when regulating the flow in the valve itself.
Generalised Multi Run Summary Report shows Test Case and Object ID
If the Object ID is set to "global" in the Generalised Multi Run Summary Report, then the Test Case will be used as the Object ID. This allows test cases to be compared. In addition, it is possible to generate summary values for multiple objects.
