Adding and removing parts

Add three-dimensional parts saved as mesh or parametrically to a project to start working on them. When adding a part, the file formats available are a subset of those available when opening a project. You can also remove parts, or create new parts using the Part Library.

Tip: Adding and removing parts is also available from context menus.

Adding a part

Netfabb provides two dialogs for adding parts. One is a simple Open File dialog, the other provides information and options to perform initial actions such as repairing and learning which parts might need it, setting the level of detail, basic arranging and grouping. Switch between them using Settings > Settings > Import and Export > Use Advanced File Import.

Using the simple dialog:

  1. Click File > Add Part.
  2. Browse to and select one or more part files to add.
  3. Click OK to load the part into the project.

Using the advanced dialog:

  1. Click File > Add Part
  2. Browse to and select one or more part files to add.

The Import Parts dialog opens, showing all the parts you will add to the project.

  3. Make your settings and configurations, if necessary, then click Add Parts.

Remove a part

  1. Select the part you want to remove.
  2. Click Edit > Remove.

The part is then removed and deleted from the active project.

Add from the part library

The part library provides a collection of configurable templates for basic geometric shapes, special mathematical bodies such as the Klein bottle, technical parts like nuts and bolts, as well as a collection of design objects that derive their shape from the application of pixel data and mathematic formulae.

The part library also contains a selection of standardized test parts, such as for testing tensile strength.

  1. From the main menu, choose File > Part Library.
  2. Browse to an object and double-click it.

The object is previewed in the display, and its parameters are listed the context view.

  3. Make changes to the object parameters as needed.
  4. Click Create Part to add the new part to your project.
