To measure point-cloud features, you must use a laser scanner. As you scan the item, the Point Cloud Feature dialog displays instructions for scanning the type of feature you selected. The dialog also displays the number of scanlines and the number of points taken.
You can change the point colours using the Colours - Point Cloud page in the Options dialog.
Note: Point-cloud features are available only when creating inspections for CNC and Manual machines.
- Configure and calibrate the laser.
- Play the item.
- In the Point Cloud Feature dialog, set the scan options:
- To sound a proximity warning when the laser is close to the part, deselect
.
- To lock the CAD view and prevent PowerInspect from panning to the centre of the feature, select
.

- Hold the laser probe perpendicular and approximately 100 mm (4 inches) from the feature.
- Project the laser line onto the part, and then press the trigger on the arm.
- Move the probe over the part to record points. Ensure that the laser line is broken by the feature.
- After you complete the measurement, press the trigger again, and click one of the following:
To delete the points and rescan the feature, click

To save the probed points and close the dialog, click
