Why do I get the error "Locked files cannot be copied"?
Reverting to a previous version of the file will lock the latest version which the Replication Tool cannot overwrite
Will my files already be post-processed when they are copied?
The Autodesk Replication Tool, as of January 2025, will provide post-processed files at the destination location. In the past, files copied with ART ended up at their destination location not post-processed, so you had to manually run the "Process" button if you wanted to be able to view them in Docs. There are limitations to this:
- Only files that are post-processed in their source location will also be post-processed at their destination location.
- Only files that are copied within the same geographic region will be post-processed at their destination. As of January 2025, there are three regions of Docs cloud servers: the U.S., Europe, and Australia. In the future, it is expected that several more regions will come online.
Why are some of my files reporting a size of 0kb?
ART reports file sizes by rounding to the nearest kilobyte. Therefore, if a file is very small (less than half a kilobyte), it will report as 0kb even though it is a complete file. ART will report these files as successfully copied and you will see them in the destination location you chose in your Task.
Where are my empty folders?
Empty folders are not currently copied through ART, but our team is working on a way to overcome this limitation with the Autodesk Platform Services (APS) APIs.
Why can't I open the Revit models in the Destination Project/why do they have no links?
Models copied with ART are not Cloud Models or Cloud Workshared Models in the Destination Project. Workshared models will still have their worksets. All models must be downloaded and opened and then saved as a Cloud Model or have collaboration activated to an Autodesk Cloud Project to be able to open them directly from Revit.
Some links may be updated through ART when copied to a new project and some may need to be manually repathed. This functionality is based on several factors including file location, version, hub CDE, and current features of Bridge and Docs. Users should test and review periodically to see if links are updated and maintained after copying.
I’ve added the Replication Tool to my hub but when I go to use the ART tool, I can’t see my projects.
Users need to be added to a Project AND have access to Docs within that project to see the folders in ART. ART uses Autodesk permissions – without permission to be part of a project, you won’t see the files to copy them.
Can I copy files within the same project?
Yes, however, the files need to be processed first within the project. If copying files to a different project, they do not need to be processed to migrate.
Is there a max amount of files and folders I can copy in a single task?
No, however, projects with many folders, subfolders, and files (200+) could cause your computer to run out of memory which could stop the application from responding.
What if I have Plant 3D files?
When transferring files created in AutoCAD Plant 3D, you will need to take additional steps to ensure a successful migration. For more information on transferring Plant 3D files, click

If I still have questions not addressed by this FAQ, how can I get additional help?
ART is a technology preview product managed as a beta program on the Autodesk Feedback community. The best place to get additional assistance, have questions answered, or receive notifications about product updates is on the ART Feedback Community site User Forums, found HERE.
Why are my Task names different in the report?
If you create a Task name using some special characters, those characters will be replaced with the GUID of the task in the report. You can resolve this by removing or replacing the special characters with any of the supported characters:
- Alphanumeric (a-z,A-Z,0-9)
- Special Characters (!_.*'()-)
