What's New
Here are the new features and enhancements found in VRED 2020.2 products:
Smart References - Smart references are native to VRED. Use them for dividing a large project into smaller VPB files. This way, team members can work on individual files without loading the entire project. How is this done? Smart references are modified in VRED, then stored in external VPB files. This minimizes increases to the main project's file size. Also, smart references can be loaded and unloaded without the need to reimport, which is great for maintaining scene performance.

Reference Editor - Lists all reference nodes in your scene, identifying the kind of reference, file status, when something was last modified, who made the modifications, and the file location. All reference options, including (Re)Import, can be found in the menu bar or right-click context menu of the Reference Editor.

Reference Monitoring and Notifications - Improved the design and functionality of the Assembly/Reference update mechanism for monitoring changes and providing notifications.

Replace Reference - Replaces the current reference file with another.
Save VRED project with references - When saving a project with references, the type of reference determines how things are saved. See Saving a Project with References, Saving a Project with Smart References, and Saving a Project with Source References.
Load VRED project and VPB files with references - Provided a way to load VRED projects and VPB files containing smart references into VRED.
Save Smart References As - Save changes made to a smart reference in VRED, creating a new file.
Reference Editor Edit functionality - Use the Edit menu for converting, reimporting, removing, deleting, and repathing references.
Reference File modification - Displays the location of the selected reference's source file. Use the File icons
to replace, reimport, delete, and get information for the selected reference.Reference State in the Scenegraph - Use the colors of the icons and file types in the Scenegraph to know the state of a reference.

Modified Reference Search Filtering - Added search filters to quickly find to what you need in the Reference Editor.
Reference Update Monitoring preference - Added update monitoring to enable or disable this in the Reference preferences. When enabled, changes are monitored. If notifications are enabled, visual indicators, such as icon and file type colors, update in the Reference Editor and Scenegraph.
Reference Preferences - Supplied preferences for update monitoring, change notifications, and smart reference open behaviors are found here.
Reference Repath - Provided a tool to change the path of the current references to a new storage location. Repath looks in the new location for file names matching the reference names. If the file cannot be found, the Repath dialog appears for locating the file.
Toolkit - Added toolkit options to the import parameters and JT preferences for setting the toolkit used by VRED. Choose one of the following options: Parasolid or Jt Open (Experimental).

Import progress bar - Added a progress bar to the Import File(s) dialog. When files are importing, a progress bar appears at the bottom, indicating what percentage of the file(s) are imported.

Python API for VR documentation - Added documentation that provides information on the concept of connecting device actions, such as button presses, to actual functionality implemented through a Python script. It explains how to create a new device interface, connect to the default device interactions, work with controllers and trackers, create VR menu entries, and manage VR collatoration sessions.
Foveated Rendering - Added support for foveated rendering, so eye-tracked areas can be rendered in high resolution and peripheral areas in low resolution.
Circular HTML menus - Added a customizable cirular menu for a frontplate to the VREDAsset installer.
Material names for XT_faces - Added support for importing JTkMaterials, which are assigned to JT XTFaces, and assigning them to NURBS (BREPS), without changing the names.
Qt Quick WebGLstreaming plugin - Added a new script plugin to manage Qt Quick WebGL streaming applications.
