What’s New in the June 2025 Update

Version: 2.12.14

Release Date: June 10th, 2025

Join a Workshop from the Web

Overview

Our latest release for Workshop XR allows participants to attend XR workshops using a supported web browser. No installation or VR hardware is required. This extends access to stakeholders, reviewers, and teammates who need to observe sessions without a headset.

Features & Benefits

  • Attend Workshops Without a Headset: Stakeholders and collaborators can now join sessions from anywhere, expanding access beyond VR-equipped users.
  • Join Directly via the Web: No installation needed — Workshop XR users can participate quickly and securely in ongoing workshops, lowering the barrier to entry.
  • Real-Time Audio Communication: Web users can hear and speak with other participants, fostering inclusion in key discussions despite hardware differences.
  • Synchronized Host View: Viewers follow the VR host’s perspective in real time, ensuring shared context and reducing misalignment.
  • Desktop Browser Optimized: Delivers the best experience on desktop browsers, ideal for office-based stakeholders or those using work-issued devices.

Limitations and Known Constraints

  • Web users cannot start or host workshops; participation is passive and limited to sessions led by VR users.
  • No independent navigation; the view is fully controlled by the VR host.
  • Limited interaction with 3D models or tools; this is a view-only experience. Users can interact with existing logged issues and see session participants.
  • Web users do not appear as avatars in the XR environment.
  • Mobile browsers are not officially supported currently.
  • Requires a valid Workshop XR account and subscription to access sessions.
  • In rare instances, larger groups of participants can encounter instability and unexpected behaviors.

Other Features

View Snapshots from Model Coordination

  • View Snapshots from Model Coordination: Model Coordination users already making use of View Snapshots can now bring them into Workshop XR for an immersive review.
  • “Save To Docs” Workflow from Model Coordination: These “Snapshots” can now be accessed and reviewed in Workshop XR.

Smoother Avatar Movement

  • Remote user smooth movement: Previously, the avatars of your collaborators could appear jittery when using smooth motion. We’ve made updates to help collaborators’ avatars move more smoothly.

Model Loading Optimizations

  • Enhanced Support for Large and Offset Models: Workshop XR now better supports models with extensive geometric bounds, such as horizontal infrastructure or campus-scale layouts. These improvements reduce loading times and performance issues when navigating large-scale environments.
  • Support for Models with Baked-in Offsets: Some models may not appear large but contain significant coordinate offsets due to coordination workflows. This update helps the models load and display reliably, preventing visual glitches and navigation inconsistencies.
  • Reduced Visual Jitter in First-Person Navigation: A fix is in progress to eliminate the jitter or object “jumping” seen when navigating offset models in first-person view. This will significantly improve the fluidity and realism of 1:1 walkthrough.
  • Engine Upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.4.4: By updating to UE 5.4.4, Workshop XR gains improved rendering stability and performance when handling complex model configurations. As seen in recent tests, the upgraded version delivers smooth, uninterrupted movement even in challenging models that previously caused issues in competing viewers.
  • Improved Transparency Rendering at a Distance: This release also includes enhancements to how transparent materials render when viewed from far away, improving depth perception and scene clarity in large models.

Level of Detail (LOD) Enhancements

  • More Fidelity, Less Overhead: Expanded Multi-LOD Support for 3D Models: Workshop XR now supports four levels of detail per object instead of just two. Previously, models were shown either as simplified boxes or full-resolution geometry. Now, users benefit from three new intermediate LODs (low, medium, and high) which preserve key shapes and forms without the performance cost of full-resolution models.
  • Improved Visual Fidelity Across Scenes: By replacing box representations with meaningful lower-resolution geometry, scenes retain more recognizable structure and detail. This increases immersion and spatial understanding, especially when reviewing complex environments from a distance.
  • Smoother Performance in Dense Scenes: With more LOD options, the system dynamically adjusts detail levels based on view distance and context. This allows users to load and navigate larger or more complex models with smoother frame rates and fewer slowdowns.

Also, in 2.12.14

  • Continued minor UX/UI updates to improve the overall user experience.
  • Collaborators can now better see the pointer ray and the label indicating who is pointing.
  • Avatar height is now a required setting users must input prior to entering a workshop.
  • If device storage falls below 10GB, Workshop XR will automatically clear the oldest model in cache and notify the user.
  • Better support for Issue Templates with Custom Fields.

Resolved Issues

  • Various crashes and bug fixes.
  • Minor improvements to avatar loading behavior.
  • Resolved an issue preventing users who have not configured an Avatar from being able to create one through Workshop XR.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a user's chair to be visible before their Avatar when first entering a Workshop.
  • Fixed an issue causing unintended highlighting behavior when selecting an object to view its properties.
  • The loading indicator will now show if model properties take some time to load.

Known Issues

  • There may be a significant delay between geometry visibility being adjusted in the model browser, and the update appearing in Workshop XR.
  • In some cases, manipulating the scale models can result in lower frame rates.
  • Files search does not currently respect the All-Folder toggle setting.
  • The "Go-to Issue" button can remain active in the issue detail panel even when the "Current Model" toggle is off, and the issue pertains to a different model.
  • In rare cases, a model may get stuck in a blue loading state in Scale Model Mode.
  • In some cases, after updating their configured avatar, a user may get stuck in the home space interacting with the splash screen.
  • Exiting and reentering a Workshop may cause a user’s audio to sound quieter. To fix this, users should force close the app and relaunch.
  • Changes to visibility of various geometry may not be reflected for all users in a meeting.
  • The Model Browser tab may take an extended time to load for some models.
  • Users may experience unintentional avatar behavior, such as repeatedly transitioning between poses, if their physical position is outside of expected bounds.
  • User Badges may be misaligned in Workshop XR on the web.
  • Possible disconnections when using Workshop XR on the web.
  • Users may experience audio issues for Workshop XR on the web when the host exits and returns to the workshop.
  • Headset users in the workshop may experience grayed-out "Go-To" and "Gather" buttons and may need to exit to the home page and re-enter the workshop.
  • Workshop XR on Web users might experience random latency and rendering issues.
