Apply teardrops to a 2D PCB

Use Design Rules to place teardrops on a 2D PCB.

  1. In the Electronics workspace, on the 2D PCB document Rules toolbar, click Rules > Design Rules Design Rules icon.

  2. In the Design Rules dialog, scroll down to the 4 teardrop rules (one for each connected object) and enable the rule for the desired object.

    1. Via Teardrop
    2. PTH Pad Teardrop
    3. SMD Pad Teardrop
    4. Trace-to-Trace Teardrop (Taper)
  3. In the rule’s right-side detailed panel, confirm the following parameters:

    1. Style: Line or curve

      1. Line: The teardrop is composed of straight-line segments.
      2. Curve: The teardrop uses arcs, which leads to a smoother interface between connections.
    2. Length: Set the teardrop length as a percentage of the connected object.

    3. Width: Set the teardrop width as a percentage of the connected object.

    4. Violation settings: Choose either Ignore or Avoid violations.

    5. Auto-generate: Automatically apply teardrops to relevant connections.

  4. Place teardrops:

    1. Automatically: Enable Auto-generate in the Design Rules dialog to apply teardrops to all connections of the rule’s object based on the defined parameters.
    2. Manually: Select a wire on the canvas, then in the Inspector, set Teardrop property to On. The teardrop will be applied based on the rule settings.
