Insert an edge into a T-Spline body
Learn how to use the Insert Edge tool to add an edge to a T-Spline body by offsetting existing edges in Fusion.
To insert an edge on a T-Spline body, highlight an edge or loop and edit a value for the location of the new edge.
There are two options for displaying the surface:
- Simple. Does not move the location of any points or edges. However, the surface shape may change.
- Exact. Maintains the shape of the surface by adding control points or shifting existing control points.
The Insertion Side option specifies whether the tool inserts a new edge on one side or new edges on both sides of the original edge.
You can insert edges into partial and complete face loops, edge rings, and edge loops.
In the Design workspace, Form contextual environment, select Modify > Insert Edge
.
Select the edge or loop to edit.
A green line indicates the new edge.
Drag the manipulator or enter a value to position the edge.
The value is in ratios of 1, with 1 being the distance between the selected edge and the neighboring edge. Negative values place the new edge on the opposite side of the edge.
Select Single or Both from the Insertion Side drop-down to specify one edge or two edges.
To create a whole loop from the edge, double-click the edge.
To maintain the surface shape, in the Insertion Mode drop-down, select Exact.
Tips
- Simple insertion mode only inserts the selected number of edges but the shape of the body might change to maintain the number of edges.
- Exact insertion mode maintains the shape of the body but adds edges to maintain that shape.
- To minimize the impact on the existing body, use an Insert Location of 0.50 to place the edge in the center of the face then use Edit Form or other tools to move the edge. In exact mode, this minimized the number of faces created. In simple mode, this minimizes the change in the shape of the body.
