Place a Weld between Structural Elements

Add welds to establish a connection between steel structural elements.

To place a weld

1. Click Steel tab Fabrication Elements panel (Welds).
2. In the drawing area, select the steel elements to connect.
   Note: Use Ctrl + click to select multiple elements.
3. Press Enter.
4. Pick one of the available edges of the elements to connect to place the weld. When you hover your cursor over elements, available edges to receive the weld highlight.

   The weld is represented in the view as a cross symbol that can be used to add tags for documentation.

   

Select the weld cross symbol to access its instance properties in the Properties palette.

• Weld symbols are only visible when the Detail Level of the view is set to Fine.
• Welds are created as weld points and connect plates, structural steel framings and columns, with shapes and families supported in the steel fabrication workflow.
• For each specific weld type, you have only a number of values you can choose from for the main and double type, location, surface shape and weld preparation, valid for that weld type. These values are saved in the database and cannot be edited.
• The weld does not contain the logical connection between connected objects or information about the connected objects, but only the weld properties.
• The weld does not move along with the input element. You need to select both the input element and the weld in order to move them together.
• You can place welds on standard steel connection sub-elements, but not on custom steel connection sub-elements.
