Tutorial: Advanced 3D machining

This tutorial lets you practice the High Speed Machining skills you learnt in previous tutorials and uses some new techniques for 3D machining. Using the Rest machining toolpath option, you will learn how to reduce the left over material with progressively smaller tools.

For a better experience with this advanced tutorial, it is recommended that you complete Tutorials: 2D Adaptive, High Speed 3D Machining first.

In this tutorial you will machine the 3D part shown below using the following procedures:

• Creating a Setup
• Facing the Part
• Outside Contouring (2D)
• Adaptive Clearing to rough the part
• Adaptive Clearing for Rest Machining
• Horizontal Finishing the flat areas
• Contour Finishing
• Parallel Finishing
• Machining Small Radii using Pencil
• Post Processing

Prerequisites

• Tutorial5 is open in the Manufacture workspace.
  1. If necessary, on the Application toolbar, click Show Data Panel .
  2. In the Data Panel, under Samples, double-click CAM Samples > Tutorials > Tutorial5.
  3. Close the Data Panel.
  4. On the Design workspace toolbar, from the Workspace menu, select Manufacture.
