Tutorial 1 - Simulate the Flow in Hydronic Systems

This tutorial guides you through the flow simulation through the piping and ducting systems of the hydronic systems.

For this tutorial, use the Audubon_MEP_Central-mod.rvt project which is available for download here. To access the file, log in to your Autodesk Labs account and join the React Fluids project.

The system consists of a main air handling unit (AHU) which feeds return and supply ducting throughout the space. The hydronic piping system is fed by two pumps, and is also connected to the main AHU as well as to several heat pump units. The AHU and heat pump units are not included in the simulation.

There are approximately 28 separate systems in the Revit model that make up the Hydronic Network. To ensure flow connectivity between them, we enable an option upon launch that groups connected systems into networks. It allows us to more realistically simulate the flow across the physical piping and ducting networks.

The simulation will show us the flow rate and pressure distribution throughout the two networks. It will help us to identify areas where the flow is insufficient and the pump operating points.

All geometric modeling tasks are performed in Revit. The geometry and element attributes are transferred directly to React Fluids.
