23. Why am I unable to see the geometry of an exchange after loading it in the Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Revit?

The following could be the reasons you are unable to see the geometry:

  • Geometry could be small and cannot be seen with the current zoom setting.
  • Geometry may be placed out of the current view. Use Revit's Zoom to Fit command to gather the whole geometry in the view. You may need to hide some bigger elements such as Levels and then use Zoom to Fit command.

24. Sometimes, why do I see the Data Exchange icon disabled in the Revit software?

The Data Exchange icon is disabled when another Revit command is running. For example, creating a wall or door is in progress. This behavior applies to other Revit commands as well.

25. Why do I get an error while entering the exchange name with some special characters?

Special characters, such as <>:"/\|?.`* are not allowed in the exchange name.

26. What is the length supported for the exchange name?

27. In Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Revit, how do I achieve data granularity while creating an exchange?

While creating an exchange add more filters by selecting the ‘category’ under the “Filter by” drop-down.

28. In Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Revit, I used a view to define the content of an exchange and created an exchange. Later I edited the View (hide or unhide). Will this update that exchange?

Yes, exchange is updated based on the hide or unhide of categories or elements in the 3D View. For more information, refer to the video.

29. In Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Revit, I created an exchange from a line 3D view, but in ACC why do I see the default rendered view of the exchange?

Rendering is not considered while creating an exchange. Hence, line 3D view rendering is neglected, and default rendering can be seen in the exchange viewable.

30. Can I create an exchange by selecting elements of a model in Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Revit?

Yes, you can create an exchange by selecting elements of a model in Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Revit except Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Revit 2024.

31. Are exchanges bi-directional?

Exchanges are uni-directional currently. Once you create an exchange, that can only be edited or updated from where it was authored. To send data “back," you need to create a new exchange. We intend to expand towards more bi-directional exchange authoring or editing in future. Take the example of an exchange created in Revit and brought into Rhino. Updating or editing the same exchange in Rhino and sending it back through the same is not yet supported. You must create an exchange from Rhino currently.

32. Can I distinguish between the elements coming from the Data Exchange and those that are native?

Yes, you can achieve this by using the Select elements option available for an exchange. Select your exchange from connector interface, click More menu, and then click Select elements from the drop-down list.

33. Why does the element count in the Connector preview differ from the actual element count?

In Revit, some families display as a single element even though they represent multiple instances. The Revit API returns the correct count of individual elements, which is reflected after creating the Exchange in ACC.

34. What should I know if the source file is shared, saved as, or copied?

When a source file such as a Revit, Rhino, or Inventor is shared with others and saved under a new name, or copied to a different location or project, it can result in multiple file versions linked to the same exchange. This may lead to accidental updates from different versions, causing confusion and version conflicts. To prevent this, avoid updating an existing Data Exchange from any shared, renamed, or copied file. Instead, create a new Data Exchange when working with such files to ensure version clarity and avoid conflicts.
