Troubleshooting Problems with BCF Issue Export and Import

The following table includes descriptions of some common situations that you may experience and what you can do:

Error Explanation Solutions
"Couldn't connect issue to the current model" If you try to import a BCF file that was created on another model, sometimes there may be problems connecting the element GUID from the BCF file to the model in ACC.

As a result, your issue may not be created and placed on the relevant element on the model.
  • Make sure you're using the same model (IFC/Revit files) as the one with which you'd created BCF topics.
"No selected element for the issue" When creating an issue on the third-party application, you must select an element from the model. If you fail to do so, we may not be able to locate the issue and create the issue pushpin.
  • Create or edit the issue on the BCF file again, making sure that you select an element on the model.
"No viewpoint found for one or more topics on BCF file" You may see this error when the BCF file is corrupted and the visibility data is missing for some issues. The file may be manually corrupted or the problem may occur due to a bug on the third party.
  • Export the BCF file again to make sure it is exported correctly and is not corrupted.
  • If the problem persists, try exporting the file using different software.
"ID missing for one or more BCF topics on the BCF file" The error indicates that the file is corrupted and the issues are missing their IDs. The file may be manually corrupted or the problem may occur due to a bug on the third party.
  • Export the BCF file again to make sure it's exported correctly and is not corrupted.
  • If the problem persists, try exporting the file using different software.
"No issues found in the BCF file" You may see this error if the BCF file is manually corrupted or when there is a bug on the third party.
  • Export the BCF file again and make sure that the file is exported correctly and is not corrupted.
  • If the problem persists, try exporting the file with the use of different software.
"The BCF file can contain a maximum of 60 issues" Currently, you can import one BCF file containing up to 60 issues.
  • Modify the BCF file to make sure you comply with the limitation.
"Issues deleted" The error indicates that an issue exists but it was deleted in ACC; therefore; it can't be imported due to potential conflicts.
  • Click Restore and restore the issue.
"The BCF file must be in version 2.1" The error indicates that an issue exists but it was deleted in ACC; therefore; it can't be imported due to potential conflicts.
  • Verify that your file was exported in 2.1 version.
  • If you did not export the file in version 2.1, export it again using version 2.1.
"The file must be in .bcf format" We currently support only files with the .bcf suffix.
  • Make sure you import files in .bcf format.
"Title required" The error may occur if the issue title is missing from the BCF file. This can happen when the file is manually corrupted or due to a bug on the third party.
  • Make sure that the issue has a name/title before exporting the file.
  • Try exporting the file again or use different software.
"Status required" The problem can occur if the BCF file is missing issue status. This can happen when the file is manually corrupted or due to a bug on the third party.
  • Make sure that the issue has status before exporting the issue.
  • Try exporting the BCF file again or use different software.
"ID required" The problem may occur if the BCF file is missing issue ID. This can happen when the file is manually corrupted or due to a bug on the third party.
  • Try exporting the BCF file again or use different software.
"Description - maximum limit of 1000 characters exceeded" You may see this error when the issue description exceeds the maximum allowed character limit.
  • Adjust the description to comply with the character limit.
  • Export the file again.
"Title - maximum limit of 100 characters exceeded" You may see this error when the issue title exceeds the maximum allowed character limit.
  • Adjust the title to comply with the character limit.
  • Export the file again.
